Event Overview

Noble Silence Silent Retreat with Drupon Lama Dorje

We are honored to welcome Drupon Lama Dorje, a renowned meditation master from an unbroken lineage of 2,500 years, whose teachings bring timeless benefits to our modern lives.

This retreat provides the rare opportunity to learn profound meditation techniques designed to stabilize the mind and cultivate inner peace.

Practices

At the core of this retreat is The Great Shravasti Meditation, a step-by-step journey through Shamatha, Vipassana, and Mahamudra meditations. Rooted in the teachings of the Anapanasati Sutra and enriched by a Vajrayana perspective, this practice reveals the nature of mind through mindfulness of breath.

Participants will explore mindfulness in four aspects:

  • Mindfulness of body
  • Mindfulness of feelings
  • Mindfulness of mind
  • Mindfulness of phenomena

The practice is presented in 16 steps, offering both depth and clarity, and is complemented by yogic breathwork that supports physical and mental relaxation. These techniques were requested by His Holiness Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, head of the Drikung Kagyu lineage, for Lama Dorje to share with practitioners in Latin America.

In addition to seated meditation, the retreat includes:

  • Walking meditation
  • Eating meditation
  • Morning yogic breath exercises to loosen the body for comfortable sitting
  • Daily prayers and introspective reflections

2025 Schedule Overview

The Approach

This retreat strikes a balance between teachings and silent practice of the teachings. Meditation can often feel daunting, but Lama Dorje’s gentle guidance makes it accessible to all. He offers personalized insights during daily Q&A sessions, ensuring your questions about meditation are addressed with wisdom and care.

Noble Silence is a key element. While many meditation retreats require total silence, here it is integrated thoughtfully:

  • Day 1: Teachings and meaningful conversations set the foundation.
  • Days 2, 3 & 4: Noble Silence allows for deeper introspection, broken only for evening Q&A sessions with Lama Dorje.
  • Day 5: Closing with teachings, reflection, and dialogue.

What is Noble Silence?

Noble Silence is a period of intentional quiet, where external distractions are minimized to foster inner awareness. In the busyness of life, wisdom often fades as quickly as it arises. Noble Silence creates a space where the mind can settle, allowing insights to penetrate deeper and remain with us long after the retreat. With the guidance of an experienced Tibetan Lama, this silence becomes a powerful tool for internal transformation.

Who Should Attend?

This retreat welcomes practitioners of all levels. Whether you are a seasoned meditator or just beginning, Lama Dorje’s clear instructions and tailored responses will guide you along your path:

  • Beginners will be gently introduced to mindfulness practices that can be integrated into everyday life.
  • Advanced practitioners will appreciate the nuanced presentation of these ancient and profound technique, discovering new depths in their practice.

A Supportive Digital Detox

To fully embrace the retreat’s transformative power, participants will engage in a digital detox, leaving behind phones and devices. Dharma books and journals are welcome, allowing for reflection without distraction.

Why This Retreat?

This retreat offers more than just an introduction to meditation:

  • Personalized interaction with Drupon Lama Dorje
  • A unique Tibetan perspective on Shamatha, Vipassana, and Mahamudra
  • A bilingual experience in both Spanish and English

This is a precious opportunity to deepen your meditation practice with the rare, hands-on guidance of a master rooted in the Drikung Kagyu tradition.

🧳 WHAT TO PACK

We're in a tropical climate in the Colombian countryside, so please expect strong sun and mosquitoes too (technically, no-see-ums). For this reason, in addition to your bathing suit, we highly recommend long sleeves, long pants, hiking boots, walking shoes, a sun hat, a jacket (sometimes it is chilly at night), a rain jacket, a headlamp, a watch or clock for the time and an alarm, sunblock, and plenty of mosquito repellent.

Please note that cell phones will not be used during the retreat, so having a headlamp/flashlight and a watch/clock are necessary.

Details for your stay

After you register for the retreat, the retreat host in Jericó will be in touch with you via email and WhatsApp with further details and to help you coordinate your travel. 🤗

We look forward to seeing you!

Love is the only cause of happiness,

Finca La Cristalina in Jericó, Colombia ☀️🦚🪷

Venue

Finca La Cristalina has been remodeled with a traditional Colombian aesthetic combined with luxury soft goods (plush towels, soft and firm pillows, high-thread-count sheets, comfortable beds, painted concrete tile, etc.).

This stunning finca (ranch) offers simple luxury with a jacuzzi, yoga & meditation, 3 streams & waterfalls, organic veggie garden, free roaming animals, & fast wifi on a peaceful 4.5 hectares.

We are a bumpy 12-minute drive to the town square, or a pleasant & safe 37-minute walk. Cheap taxis & motos are common.

The kitchen and bedroom furniture feature hand-crafted woodwork from local artisans, and the living room has comfortable couches. The upstairs has a newer feel to it, while the downstairs is more rustic (and still very comfortable).

🚙 🚌 🚕 TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM JERICÓ

There are three good options to come from Medellín (or Bogotá) to Jericó. You can drive, take the bus, or hire a private car/SUV. La Cristalina can help you arrange all of this.

Driving: If you are driving, please follow the Google Maps directions. La Cristalina is approximately 2.5 hours from Medellín and 11 hours from Bogotá.

Bus: If you wish to take the bus from Medellín, the cost is 35 mil (or less than $10 USD). We can help you purchase tickets and an assigned seat in advance via the bus company Transportes Jericó. The bus leaves Medellín from the bus terminal, Terminal del Sur, and Jericó is its only destination (easy!). The ride is approximately 3 hours. Once you arrive to Jericó, we can help you arrange a taxi to La Cristalina, which is only 10 minutes away, via one of our trusted drivers.

Taxi/SUV: You can also rent a private car or SUV, and the cost can be split between the passengers. The cost for a private car from Medellín is 420 mil (~$100 USD), while the cost of the SUV is 600 mil (~$150 USD). Both can pick you up directly from the airport or your hotel, and take you directly to La Cristalina in Jericó. We can arrange this for you with our trusted drivers.
